Cuisinart Cleanburn

Smokeless Fire Pit • 19.5"

The Cuisinart Cleanburn 19.5" is a compact, smokeless-style wood fire pit that’s meant for patios and smaller backyard setups. Once it heats up, it burns hot and clean with way less “smoke-in-your-face” than a basic open fire bowl.

Great if…

  • You want a low-smoke wood fire on a patio without committing to a huge pit
  • You like a contained flame that feels warmer up close than most cylinder-style smokeless pits
  • You want quick setup and a built-in ash tray style cleanup system
  • Your typical group is 2–4 people for s’mores and vibe fires

Think twice if…

  • You’re expecting zero smoke at all times (startup and dying coals can still smoke)
  • You want big log capacity or “host a crowd” fires (this is a smaller burn)
  • You hate cosmetic changes like heat discoloration/dark marks over time
  • You want premium warranty/long-term durability confidence (it’s a shorter warranty than top-tier rivals)

Our take…

This is a compact, “real smokeless once it’s hot” fire pit that throws heat surprisingly well for its size thanks to the bowl shape. Best for patios and smaller hangouts, with the usual trade-off: you’ll still see some smoke at startup/shutdown and it needs dry wood to shine.

Worthy Mentions

  1. Fuel is a little “picky”: dry hardwood burns best; softwoods can sap up the bowl and aren’t great if you’re roasting food. Max log size is about 16" or smaller, so you may be cutting splits down.
  2. “Smokeless” is strongest once the bowl is hot and the fire is burning clean; expect some smoke during startup and if you overload it (especially above the max fill/vent area).
  3. Surface and safety are the big gotchas: it’s meant for non-combustible surfaces (brick/concrete/stone). If you want deck or lawn use, plan on a proper heat barrier. Also, spark screen/lid/cover are typically add-ons, not defaults.

The real-world take

Short, practical notes—what matters, what doesn’t, and what to expect.

Why we like it

  • The wide, bowl shape makes it easy to light and easier to feel the heat when you’re sitting close
  • It gets into a clean, efficient burn fast (especially with dry hardwood)
  • The lift-off ash tray design makes cleanup much less annoying than most wood pits
  • Solid “smokeless” experience for the price compared to a lot of premium brands

Best for

  • Small patios and tighter seating circles; couples or small families who want a cozy fire without the smoke chase
  • People who want a real wood fire but also want quick cleanup
  • Anyone who prefers a lower, open-bowl feel over a tall “stove pipe” style pit

Things to know

  • You’ll still see some smoke at startup and when the fire is dying down; it’s cleanest once the pit is fully hot
  • Dry hardwood matters a lot, and overfilling it can make it smokier until the wood settles down
  • Use it on brick, concrete, stone, or another fireproof surface (not directly on lawns or wooden decks) and give it plenty of clearance
  • Expect heat tinting/discoloration on the metal over time, and you’ll likely want a cover if it lives outside
